First of all, I appreciate this movie. I was quite surprised to glimpse it’s release on DVD, and needless to say, I grabbed it. There is no doubt that this disc is loaded with extras, but sadly, the claim that the film has been “fully restored” is extremely misleading. The advantage of these review forums, is to provide insight, from someone who has already bought the product, to those involved. And, that’s what I’m here to do.

Here are the DVD’s special features, as listed: LETTERBOXED PRESENTATION (1.85:1), REMASTERED SOUNDTRACK (in Dolby 5.1 and DTS), NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN FOOTAGE, AUDIO COMMENTARY: Jack Vacek (Cinematographer) and Warner Leighton (Editor), 3 TRAILERS (The novel theatrical trailers for “GONE IN 60 SECONDS” and “THE JUNKMAN”, and another for the remastered version of “GONE IN 60 SECONDS”), EXTENSIVE BEHIND-THE-SCENES PHOTO GALLERY, DVD-ROM CAPABILITIES, INTRODUCTION with Denice Halicki (H.B. Halicki’s widow) and “Eleanor”.

Sounds very enticing, proper? That’s what I idea. Hell, to be fair, I really didn’t care about the extras, as long as I could collect H.B. Halicki’s fresh classic on DVD! Naturally, I immediately keep the DVD in. Then, my dissapointment began.

Now, what the packaging WON’T snort you, and what I’m about to, is that this isn’t, in fact, a “fully restored” version of the film, but rather, one that has been doctored. Unfortunately, the entire film has been RE-SCORED with crappy music, supposedly aimed at “updating” this classic film, thereby dumping ALL the music from the modern sever. Yep, the catchy opening title “GONE IN 60 SECONDS” tune is gone, along with the “SUPERMAN” tune, and everything else, as well. Needless, to say, I am very disappointed. Why do people feel the need to mess with movies, like they do? I don’t assume H.B. Halicki would have been proud with what his widow has done with the rights to the film, so far.

I probably wouldn’t have minded this DVD release, if it had offered the fresh mono soundtrack on a separate audio channel, like most other remastered DVD’s offer. Then, I would have been aesthetic with it, as long as I could have the version I wanted to gawk. Instead, anyone with hopes to earn a price original copy on either DVD or video of this classic car theft film, in it’s unusual format, are aesthetic distinguished screwed. And, that’s too dreadful. So, my advice is to stick with the current out-of-print MEDIA Home Entertainment release. Bear me, that tape will level-headed be in grand quiz for years to arrive.

One more thing, there is a website: www.gonein60seconds.com. Perhaps, this would be a mountainous dwelling for suitable fans of the film to file their complaints. And, who knows, maybe someday we will survey the unusual version released in a respective manner on DVD.

First of all, I’ve loved this movie since I was 6 years passe. My mom and dad saw it in the cinema — more than once — while they were dating in 1974. To say the least, this title holds special significance in my whole family. Which is why it’s spacious to witness it re-released on both VHS and DVD for all to delight in.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Gone in 60 Seconds! Click Here

For those of you who, like me, have every scene, every line, every sound attain of the fresh movie committed to memory, you will be skittish when you play the “remastered” version. For one thing, the portray is lovely. It’s never looked so honorable. And the soundtrack has never sounded so worthy, either — because it’s been completely redone from scratch. That’s the other thing. The sound effects are all fresh. Gone are the authentic, live-recorded engine sounds, tire screeches, and other hard effects. Gone also is the unique music, including my accepted tune, “I Do Hope The Man Doesn’t Accept Me”, and the title song, “Gone In Sixty Seconds”. For someone looking for a lawful re-release of the authentic, fresh film, this is disappointing. But for me, someone who already owns an new copy of the veteran MEDIA videotape release of the film, I seek this remastered version impartial as a fun modernization of one of my current flicks.

The recent sound effects are glowing. I am a sound designer among other things, and some of the fresh crashes and guttural V8 engine sounds made me drool. They may not be true-to-life anymore, but they are mountainous in their possess good. It’s almost surreal, seeing all these ancient muscle cars, but hearing crystal-clear digital stereo effects. By incompatibility, the disturbingly mono fresh dialogue track underlaid beneath them sounds almost ridiculous! Fortunately, there is no need for noteworthy talking during the 40-minute lag, easily the highlight of the film.

In short, to really relish the remastered version of Gone In 60 Seconds, you’ve got to pick it for what it is — a novel “refreshment” of the unique film. It’s been remixed to appeal more to the same young crowd who enjoyed the 2000 remake with Nicholas Cage. If you are a factual Gone In 60 Seconds fan, however, don’t finish here. Go in search of the unique 1974 film in all its glory, on its fresh video cassette. A factual fan must indeed have both, for the audio differences between the two versions are so clear, you could almost contemplate them two separate films.

This is an exceptional DVD transfer of an exceptional movie. Criterion has done a dazzling job of restoring Charade to its intellectual glory. The film is presented in its recent 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The print is positive, crisp, and exquisite to survey. You feel as if you can near out and touch the actors.

And what actors! The film features the dashing older version of Cary Grant and the youthful gamine Audrey Hepburn, with enough chemistry between them to ignite a fireworks factory. The station is a convoluted and flimsy trifle about frigid war peruse shenanigans, with cases of wrong identity and episodes of grave anxiety for Miss Audrey. But Cary, the classic profitable guy in cad’s clothing, is there to attach the day. In addition to which he provides chaste romance that sizzles beneath the civility.

Audio commentary is provided by director Stanley Donen and screenwriter Peter Stone. While intelligent and comic in spots, it does race a bit over the length of the film. It may be better to check it out when you gather something in the film that you would like to hear dissected. Otherwise, you’d be better to stick with the delectable, corny dialogue spoken in the dulcet tones of Cary and Audrey. The soundtrack music is to also to be savored, done up in classic ’60s study movie style by the movie maestro Henry Mancini.

If you have nothing to do on a rainy day and maintain a DVD player, this is the movie you want to have on hand to pop in the machine and exclaim you from care. It’s a keeper (and it comes in a keeper case!) .

I got this DVD for Christmas and I wasn’t disappointed. Stanley Donen, director of musicals such as “Singin’ In The Rain” starring Gene Kelly, brought together Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn (who looks intellectual, as always) in this wonderfully-written record about a Parisian widow (Hepburn) who is being pursued by three uncertain men (two of which are played by George Kennedy - an generous “heavy” - and James Coburn at his most menacing) who want to win out about a great sum of money her humdrum husband supposedly had. Grant is the sterling stranger but eventually you commence to wonder: is he working with these men? Does he want the money for himself? Or is he really the fair, older man Audrey finds herself falling in fancy with?

Enhanced by a lush fetch by the behind Henry Mancini, photographed beautifully in Paris and containing friendly acting and deliciously despicable dialogue by writer Peter Stone, “Charade” is a film that should be in every serious DVD collection. Grant is older but better, like splendid wine, and Ms. Hepburn … well there have been millions of words archaic to portray her and I can’t add to them other than to say the world lost a safe talent at her death.

You’ll bask in “Charade” for a long, long time.

I opinion that Halle Berry and Natalie Desselle were delightfully droll in this film. 2 girls from Georgia go to California chasing a dream, fetch a exiguous side-tracked, but carry out their dream anyway, meeting some astounding people along the plan. The characters played by Martin Landau and Ian Richardson were SOOO comical - especially when Mr. Manley goes to the recount store, looking for “The RRRRRRRap portion.” I opinion that the actors playing the girls’ boyfriends were favorable too - a cramped kooky, but genuinely beneficial people. Nisi and Micky may appear to be gold diggers, but it turns out they have hearts of gold, and for this, they are rewarded. Who says edifying girls execute last?

I liked this movie; it made me laugh at a time when I was down in the dumps. I know Ms. Berry and Mr. Landau have been in better movies; but this one showcases their ability to be comical. Besides, if you cannot have any fun now and then; why perform movies in the first location. The status is huge because it shows fair what can happen when two blacks girls follow their dreams. Even though it doesn’t seem like it will work out for them in the ruin, it really does after all. Troy Beyer is the writer, Robert Townsend directed, shaded actors starred in it. Give this movie a break; it is a comedy; it is not supposed to be a drama like “Tall”. The scenes in the restaurant were comic and realistic; two dusky girls meeting celebrites they have only read about and heard about. If that is not laughable I don’t know what is. When will we (African-Americans) open giving each other credit for our accomplishments in the film industry??? It is high time we started recognizing each other’s talent. When we do, others will contemplate our talent as well.

There are plenty of reviews here about the movie, so there is no sense in writing another.

This review is about the DVD. I will utter you up front that this DVD looks like a screech copy off VHS. I have seen the VHS version about 2 times this year and when the title song comes on, the audio fades in and out. Not abominable, but you can definitely study some age in it. The DVD is EXACTLY the same. The sound is of no higher quality.

There is no widescreen, unprejudiced a elephantine hide with the same relate quality as VHS. It’s not snide, but if you are the type of person who buys DVDs for the obedient describe quality, you are definitely going to be poor with this.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Breakfast Club! Click Here

The movie itself is Sterling, I cherish it, but the DVD transfer from VHS isn’t the best.

As for bonus features, you salvage bios for all of the actors. The inconvenience is, the information included is the same as you can gather on the internet movie database (imdb) as well as fan sites. If you have read a fine amount on any of the actors and know their biography fairly well, this DVD offers nothing fresh.

There are also some brief production notes about where and how this movie was done, and some quotes from the cast and crew.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Breakfast Club! Click Here

Again, if you have done any research online and gone to any fan sites or even a place dedicated to John Hughes, you will secure nothing fresh here. No interviews, a miniature slack the scenes, some background detail, but in the tremendous report, not powerful else.

Just a forewarning.

I bought the DVD because unlike VHS tapes, a DVD CD doesn’t wear out. But if you behold the VHS version, then the DVD, the quality is the same. DVD is not any better.

So overall, Respectable movie, but not a broad transfer. Unruffled, if you are a fan, definitely add it to your collection, but if you prefer DVDs for the extras, you will be very disappointed with this.

If you graduated from high school in the 1980s and haven’t seen this film, you must have been locked in a cave.

John Hughes delivers the definitive nostalgic teen movie of the Generation X crowd. The cast made up the ’80s “brat pack” with Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy, Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall. It’s hard to absorb while seeing this film that Ringwald and Hall were the only dependable high school extinct performers… the others were in their mid to behind 20s during filming.

While recent teens may not gather this as “sophisticated” as over-sexed comedies like “American Pie,” anyone can delight in moral feelings, teen angst, self doubt and relationships with parents portrayed in this film.

A group of kids sitting for 8 hours in detention on a Saturday none of them will ever forget. While there is evil language, it’s about the same hasten as what you can hear on “NYPD Blue” on TV. There is no nudity or sex, objective raw, in your face teen angst.

You ogle this group of “losers,” warts and all, and become friends with all of them before the film is over. The DVD doesn’t offer anything other than cast bios and subtitles… which is a disappointment. It would have been grand to have had some interviews with the cast and slow the scenes footage. Nonetheless, DVD is remarkable better than tape and definitely worth the extra $ for a non volitile format.

I would give the movie itself five stars, but the DVD presentation is not as strong. The 1980 Flash Gordon movie is one of the funnest romps in the position opera I have ever experienced. Powerful more apt to the Saturday morning serial kind of sci-fi that Star Wars was paying homage to. Plus the soundtrack from Queen unprejudiced ups the fun factor even more. You would assume this combination of music and order would obtain for a very campy film, but not necessarily. While the movie definitely knows it’s roots and is having fun with that you really can’t call Flash Gordon a cheesy B-movie.

What I am finding out about the Savior of the Universe (SotU) edition DVD is that it is lacking a lot of the cold stuff from the European Silver Anniversary Edition DVD. While you do accept a remastered film with 2.35:1 anomorphic widescreen, 5.1 Dolby Surround and the movie trailer it lacks in the really pleasant special features from the European DVD. That one has commentaries by director Mike Hodges and actor Brian Blessed (the very charismatic hawkman ruler Vultan), production stills, interviews and understanding art. The SotU DVD has none of this.

What you do gather is two featurettes. One is from Alex Ross (the guy who painted the DVD mask) on how mighty he loves the movie. He actually does a really righteous job of making his featurette distinguished like an analysis of the movie and would have worked substantial as narration for a documentary. Instead you unprejudiced find Alex in a chair with a few movie clips thrown in here and there. The other featurette is called Writing a Classic by screenwriter Lorenzo Semple Jr. Obvious the Silver Special Edition doesn’t have these featurettes, but I contemplate you’re really missing out without those commentaries and interviews.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Flash Gordon! Click Here

Another thing that bugs me is this DVD is plot in an impressive and slightly oversized case, but when you initiate it up all you accept is the DVD and the pencil art insert from Alex Ross. No booklet detailing any info on the movie… not even a single page chapter list. Yeah, Yeah… most of you would say “but the remastered movie is what’s necessary” but considering the sendup (and packaging) I would ask at least something more than unbiased a disk and a sketch. I have seen movies with far less noteriety find more in their packaging than this.

The remastering itself is definitely a spacious step up from the fresh DVD release, but composed not perfect. The matte blocks are painfully noticeable on the spaceships early in the movie. There is however a whole lot less dirt and distortion (almost unnoticeable) compared to the first DVD release. Also don’t inquire of an amazing audio experience even if they remastered in 5.1 Dolby Surround. Again, it’s a valid deal better than the other DVD, but my guess is the source material wasn’t big so the remaster composed sounds a bit on the thin and tinny side. Level-headed I won’t argue that this is the best transfer of the movie to date.

I can’t for the life of me figure out why they didn’t impartial add the European edition features to this one and maybe add the current things to sweeten the pot. But design a different edition alltogether that is missing some cold bonus material? Not the smartest fade in my book.

So should you win the SotU Edition of Flash Gordon? Well it IS remastered (and I hear some say it’s better looking than the UK edition, although this is not confirmed) and available in the US, but a right fan might only go for it if you can’t play space 2 DVDs or if you really, REALLY want that Alex Ross featurette (and pencil insert) . It’s a tough call. I judge the Silver Anniversary Edition is probably the better of the two, but this will do in a pinch.

Don’t lift from online scammers. This DVD will be re-released in the tumble of 2005!!!! Cheaper that these clowns sell them for!

The novel Image DVD version of AND THEN THERE WERE NONE is a substantial improvement in video/audio quality over previous DVD releases by VCI in 1999 and Madacy in 2001. All three versions are currently available at Amazon, so be certain to check the technical info page for each disc to stare which company makes it.

The video transfer on the Image DVD, said to be made from “fresh elements”, is distinguished, grand sharper and more detailed than that on the VCI and Madacy versions. It also shows a runt more portray on all four sides of the veil. The represent looks somewhat battered during the opening credits, but it looks expansive the rest of the device. There is a diminutive amount of graininess and other blemishes throughout, but it is not detrimental. I’m especially impressed with the scenes that seize status in the sunless, in which some of the background details, such as engravings on the wall, the subtle lights and shadows, etc., can be seen with great greater clarity. The VCI disc, conversely, looks considerable less keen, and the Madacy disc even less so.

The monophonic audio tracks on the VCI and Madacy discs are louder but have more noise compared to that on the Image disc. The predicament of the dialogs not being synchronized properly on the VCI and Madacy discs has also been fixed on the Image disc.

Buy,Download, Or Stream And Then There Were None! Click Here

The Image disc has one extra: the film’s British opening credit sequence, which uses the deplorably offensive title “Ten Microscopic N******” (which is also Agatha Christie’s current title for her whodunnit) . The sequence is preceded with an explanation of its spend so the viewer has the historical context in mind. The VCI disc has a biography allotment on the filmmakers and the 1946 comedy short TWIN HUSBANDS, starring Leon Errol. The Madacy disc has a 9-minute newsreel footage from 1945, a 12-minute blooper footage (of OTHER films), 3 screenshots of lobby cards, and a trivia inquire fragment. All three discs are region-free and without subtitles or closed captioning.

Agatha Christie’s 1930s new AND THEN THERE WERE NONE told the chronicle of ten unrelated people who are lured under various pretexts to an island resort; once assembled, they gaze they have been brought to the island by a mysterious homocidal maniac who accuses each of them of having escaped punishment for a past murder–and who then proceeds to capture them off one by one as the ever dwindling party rushes to unmask the hidden killer in their midst. Nothing like the original had been seen before, and it was a current sensation. So great so that Christie herself adapted the modern to the stage. In creating the script, Christie discovered that the novel’s uncompromising tone and unsightly conclusion did not translate well to the stage, and the final script was considerably lighter and had a considerably softer conclusion. When performed, the script was played as distinguished for comedy as for suspense–and proved as accepted as the unique. A film version became inevitable.

Countless novels, plays, and movies have borrowed the premise Christie presents in AND THEN THERE NONE, and there have been at least four film versions (most often known as TEN Shrimp INDIANS) of the novel work. All of these versions rely more upon the play script than the new, offering a mix of comedy and suspense, and by far and away the best of them is eminent French director Rene Clair’s 1940s version. Brilliantly played by an ensemble cast of renowned character actors including Judith Anderson, Barry Fitzgerald, Walter Huston, C. Aubrey Smith, and Roland Young, Clair creates a stylish, somewhat surrealistic romp that satirizes British “stiff upper lip” sensibilities with florishes of dark comedy while quietly building a sense of increasing unease. From a recent standpoint, the Clair version seems more funny than suspensful; few will bag it in the least unnerving. This does not, however, change the fact that it is a gargantuan amount of fun to glimpse. The film creates an air of used mischief that is compulsively delightful, and even if a contemporary director decided to have another go at the material it seems unlikely that any cast to equal this could be assembled. If you’re prepared for a witty amusement, AND THEN THERE WERE NONE is recommended.

I don’t usually comment on the quality of DVDs unless there is a glaring issue–but since there are several DVD versions of this film, and some have been poorly reviewed, I will specify that I purchased the VCI edition. (The shroud of this particular edition is yellow with the faces of the characters appearing in a V-shaped “wedge.”) When the DVD began to play, the VCI logo was very distorted; when the DVD changed over to the menu, however, the recount became stable. When I ran the movie, I found the titles had a bit of a flicker, but this speedy vanished; as for overall quality, the characterize and sound quality are rather terrible as the movie begins but hasty corrects to an acceptable–although not excellent–level.

James Cagney stars in this brisk crime melodrama from 1935, directed with verve by William Keighley. When hoodlums dispose of Cagney’s pal, Cagney becomes a government agent and goes after the mob. Fans of passe movies may lose count of all the familiar faces: Lloyd Nolan, Ann Dvorak, Robert Armstrong, Barton MacLane, Noel Madison, Harold Huber, Addison Richards, and so many more gorgeous character players. The film has unfortunately dated more than some Cagney pictures (the nightclub floor display and the crimefighting technology of 1935 have since become quaint), but for simple cops-and-robbers action with mugs, molls, gunplay, guttersnipe slang, and getaway cars, not to mention a safe performance by Cagney, “G-Men” is hard to beat. The print is kindly, and so is the video transfer..

This is a turnabout film for Cagney, one where he changed his film image, from ruthless gangster to valorous FBI man. Harrigan is a bigshot gangster who genrously puts Cagney through law school. When Toomey, Cagney’s pal, becomes an FBI man and is gunned down without a snowman’s chance in hell, Cagney joins the force to peek revenge…In the force of mounting criticism of the tendency of making heros out of gansters in their melodramas, Warners pulled a clever switcheroo: by showing the same crimes but by a different angle - that of the law enforcer. After a fairly dreary commence, the action picks up - and never falters. Strangely enough - because he was cast against-type - begininning with this film, Cagney’s career soared into a second wind: each of the films he made within a year’s period grossed over 1 millon dollars at the box-office. Obviously, the public liked Cagney. I know I do. As Jean Morgan, Ann Dvorak is obliging, as usual. She was special in an off-beat kind of plan. The working title of the film was THE FARRELL CASE: written by Gregory Rogers - the pseudonym of Darryl F. Zanuck (!) .

A charming comedy played superbly by Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn.

Martin plays a decently successful architect and uses his talent to perform a house for his high-school sweatheart. He is rather romantically inclined and presents her with this engagement gift wrapped in a expansive red ribbon. This scares away his high-school sweatheart as she interprets it as him being too imaginative and living in the fantasy-land than being a down-to-earth man, she’d engage to be with.

Heartbroken, he ends up in a Hungarian restaurant to wash away his woes and eventually pours out his heart to a waitress, played by Goldie Hawn, who doesn’t conclude a beat to capture advantage of the dwelling. She is an adventurous free-spirit, endowed with wild imagination, who believes that life is to be experienced and she’ll do whatever it takes to experience the richness of life.

After spending one night with the architect, she promptly packs and unbeknonst to him, travel into his newly built house. After all, why leave such a aesthetic house empty? She posthaste gets acquainted with local people, charges everything to the architect’s story and gets to meet even his parents, to him she presents herself as the architect’s wife. As current as she is - an acquired taste, as her make-believe inlaws would say, she has a very charming personality and everybody delights in her presence. Whatever the place, she always has a ready retort, often backed with a wild and unpleasant tale.

When Martin shows up at his newly-built house and finds her there, he is at first jumpy, but figures that the only design to fetch out of it is by incorporating and continuing her make-believe stories and inventing that they are now getting divorced. Not only her parents catch alive to, but also the local priest, who acts as a marriage counsellor, attempting to benefit them rescue the marriage.

Steve Martin is not so satisfactory at coming with impromptu answers and he usually botches things up, but Goldie Hawn, quite experienced at playing the game, always manages to rescue the state. She utterly enjoys playing the game and continues playing her fill agenda. She even manages to accept him promoted.

All the events design attention of his high-school sweatheart who develops some fresh interest in him - though they face themselves once again with their individual preferences as Martin discovers that he grand prefers to live in a wild and imaginary world of Goldie Hawn, which has infused him with added spice and zest for life.

I wish more projects were assembled for this tag-team of born screwball comedy geniuses, because “Housesitter” offers a huge show of how well Martin and Hawn work together onscreen. Their senses of timing are sizable and both have a gift for physical comedy and wringing the best out of every line of dialogue. I disagree with the Amazon staff reviewer, I contemplate this movie is very well constructed, with a tight plotline and honest the upright balance of jokes and exposition. Not a word or scene is wasted. The humor is absurdist but good-natured, as in older-style films, and the supporting cast does standout service. This is a very underrated comedy, in my concept, and I give it a high recommendation for fans of either of these glowing actors or zany comedy in general. A very refreshing change from in-you-face gross-out jokes and sophomoric scatalogical/sexual put-down gags that pass as “comedy” in so many films today.

It’s titanic to have this 5-disc complete first season compilation on DVD. Although no one will confuse Charlie’s Angels with “quality” television (this indicate was never meant to be taken seriously), this campy series is unprejudiced dumb fun, even 27 years later. Most episodes are light on plotline but the appeal of it’s three stars execute up for that. Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett-Majors and Jaclyn Smith have a chemistry unmatched by any of the future Angel pairings. Season One contains the series most “disagreeable” episode, “Angels in Chains.” Every single “women in prison” cliche is here……the brutal prison matrons, the leacherous sheriff and deputy, the twisted warden and of course the obligatory shower scene. This is probably the highlight of the season.

This DVD collection gets high marks for including the unique movie pilot. Although the pilot movie is unprejudiced average, I haven’t seen it since it first aired, so it was a nice bonus. Although Jaclyn Smith is featured prominently in the pilot, it was meant to be a showcase for Kate Jackson. Kate (for whom the series was created) was originally supposed to play Kelly Garrett but decided to play Sabrina at the last itsy-bitsy, thus Jaclyn Smith gets most of the camouflage time in the movie.

Unfortunately, the pilot movie is the best that can be said about the extras in the DVD collection. It also contains a rather monotonous featurette called “Angels Forever” which consists of a lot of geeky fans reminiscing about the series. TV Land and the E network had great better features about the series. Alas none of the stars are featured offering their thoughts on the series. The DVD also does not beget chapter selections for each episode, which is rather irritating. The packaging of the collection is certainly sparse as well. Each disc is contained in a flimsy plastic mask. Hopefully Sony Entertainment will honest these issues in future seasons.

I suspect the appeal of this series lies predominantly with those of us who remember when it first aired in the 1970s.
